Polyfax is skin ointment and for external use only, it is used to treat various types of fungal skin infections.
It is manufactured by: GSK GlaxoSmithKline.
A 20 grams tube ointment.
It is also available for eye ointment.
Polymyxin B Sulphate B.P 10,000 Units
Bacitracin Zinc B.P 500 Units
Petrolatum base to 1.0 G
Treatment where superficial is present or likely to occur. These include Prophylaxis in burns, graft donor sites, surgical incisions, accidental cuts, scratches and abrasions.
Therapeutic use in primarily infected dermatoses such as impetigo, bacterial otitis externa, ecthyma, folliculitis and paronychia.
Infected dermatoses, such as infected eczema, secondarily infect lesions of infestations (e.g scabies) and secondary bacterial infection accompanying viral infections.
Also indicated in the treatment of infected ulcers accidental cuts, scratches and abrasions and superficial skin infections following surgical procedures &burns.
Dosage & Administration:
It is for topical skin administration only.
Adults: a thin film of the ointment should be applied.
Use one or more times a day, as necessary.
Patients who are hypersensitive to Polyfax B sulphate, bacitracin zinc or to cross-sensitising substances.
Warning and Precautions:
Prolonged use may results in the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi.
The possibility of systemic absorption of the active ingredients exists.
Avoid the introduction of ointment into the eyes.
If it is accidentally introduced into the eye, the eye should be rinsed thoroughly with cold water.
Store below 30°C.
Keep out of the reach of children.
Use on medical advice.
In pregnancy & lactation may develop a foetus.
Adverse reactions: rare including pain, irritation, oedema, burning sensation, purities and blister.
In case of overdose & toxic symptoms develop stop using.
