Will Smith assaults Chris Rock
Will Smith’s action was very terrible during the Oscars telecast. He is a renowned American actor, producer, and rapper who has recently resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The main reason behind his resignation is that he slapped comedian Chris Rock during the Oscars telecast. Chris Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife.
Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, is suffering from Alopecia, a condition that leads to hair loss. And Mr. Rock made a joke about her buzzed hair.
Mr. Smith said that I had reacted emotionally as the joke about my wife’s medical conditions was too much to bear for me. The next day after this incident, Smith apologized to the Academy, viewers, show producers, and William’s family for his action.
Will Smith has also apologized to Chris Rock, saying I was out of line and wrong. I feel ashamed, as my actions did not indicate the man I wanted to be.
Consequences of Will Smith’s action:
However, the Academy has decided to conduct a former investigation and disciplinary process against Will Smith’s action on April 18, 2022.
Moreover, the film organization said that we would explore further actions under our standards of conduct, bylaws, and California law.
The Academy has also removed several members due to different reasons. In 2017, Harvey Weinstein was expelled because of sexual harassment and rape. While in 2018, the organization removed Bill Cosby after being convicted of sexual assault.
Moreover, the union said in a statement that any violence in the workplace will not accept, and the union condemns any such conduct. After this incident, people had presented their views.
Kathy Griffin said it’s awful to assault the Comedian on the stage. We need to worry about who wants to be the next Will Smith in comedy clubs and theatres.
The academy’s board of governor’s member Whoopi Goldberg said Smith’s award will not revoke. However, I am sure there will be consequences.
Only one Comedian, Tiffany Haddish, favors Will Smith’s actions saying, I appreciated seeing Mr. Smith protect his wife. I know most people are against this action, but the best thing that I have ever seen is that there are still men out there who love and care about their women or wives.
