41st Death Anniversary of John Lennon

Every year followers of John Lennon gather at Strawberry field in New York National Park on 8 December. This year, they also gathered in the park to pay tribute to the 41st death anniversary of John Lennon.

In New York National Park, the strawberry field comprises a 2.5-acre area. His wife, Yoko Ono, dedicated this area to her husband in 1985.

John’s fans gathered on his montage and placed candles and flowers as the memorial’s counter piece. People beat drums and guitar and sang different songs around his mosaic. They mostly sing John’s songs on his anniversary.

Lennon, a singer, and songwriter was born in Liverpool, England, on October 9, 1940. During childhood, his mother taught him to play musical instruments. Lennon formed a skiffle band at 16, called the Quarry Men.

In 1957, John met with Paul McCartney who was a Beatle singer and invited him into his band. In the following year, Paul introduced his bandmate George Harrison to Lennon.

Eventually, this collaboration resulted in the British phenomenon known as The Beatles. Along with his partners, John Lennon helped the Beatles become one of the most famous acts of the 1960s.

Lennon married Cynthia Powell in 1962, and they had a son, Julian Lennon. The couple divorced in 1968, and in 1969 Lennon married Japanese avant-garde artist Yoko Ono. During his life, he released many solos that hit a lot.

Seeing his popularity, Mark David (John’s fan) Chapman ambushed Lennon outside his apartment building at Dakota in 1980. Chapman had disagreed with Lennon’s statements. And in 1951, he also got inspired by John’s novel “The Catcher in the Rye.”

When John Lennon and his wife released their fifth album in 1980, it didn’t get many hits. But in 1981, this album won Grammy Award. On December 8, 1980, Dave Sholin, a radio personality, interviewed Lennon at his apartment. At the end of the interview, Lennon said,

“My work will not be completed until I’m dead and buried, which will hopefully be a very long time.”

After the interview, the couple left the apartment at 4:30 pm to go to the recording studio. During recording, John had signed a copy of his album for Chapman.

When he returned home with his wife from the recording session, David Chapman shot him four times with a handgun. David felt envious of why Lennon wrote his name on the album.

Like his fans, John’s wife Yoko Ono celebrated the 41st death anniversary of John Lennon on October 8, 2021. She puts a candle in their apartment window every year in memory of her husband.
